One of the nicest things about being a Verizon Insider is getting a chance to peak at upcoming technologies. I recently attended the Consumer Electronics show (CES) in Las Vegas where I was treated to a tour of the Verizon Wireless booth. There were some pretty exciting things being displayed, devices that can make our lives better & in some cases can even save lives!
Devices that amazed me the most are the wearable computers, the Motorola HC1 Headset Computer and the Golden-i by Kopin Corporation, these are fully wired headset computers that allow emergency service workers to communicate & work effectively as a team during fires and other crisis situations. I got to try on the Golden-i & was really impressed by how sensitive & responsive the voice command system is. In a crowded hall with thousands of noisy people milling about, the computer listened and quickly responded to my voice. I can see this device making it a lot easier & safer for fire fighters to do their jobs!

Golden-i
Also featured were a variety of very cool connected athletic devices!

Connected Athletes
Verizon & Cisco put together some pretty impressive ” Smart- Insole” technology that will help athletes hone & enhance their performance. This technology can also be used in hospitals, nursing homes & physical therapy departments. The insoles provide data about how a person moves & the pressure being exerted. Verizon’s 4G LTE will allow the collected data to be streamed to a range of devices. Your trainer, your doctor , your physical therapist can have vital info they need to help you quickly & easily.

safer football
The connected football helmet will save countless lives! The helmet has sensors inside that can provide data when a player takes a hit, data that can help prevent concussions! Can you imagine how great it would be to see all our football players from grade school to NFL outfitted with this life saving equipment?
The array of smart phones, tablets & other 4G LTE devices on display at the Verizon booth was staggering. Clearly, Verizon has taken a leadership role in making smart devices more useful in everyday life & in emergency situations. I was honored to get this booth tour & came away really impressed with the research & development Verizon does to make our families more comfortable & safer.
Disclaimer: I attended CES as a reporter for The Onlinemom.com, I am also a new VZW ambassador, I was not compensated for this post , opinions expressed are my own.

I have several cousins and uncles that are firemen and policemen in my family, so I was most interested to read ” the Motorola HC1 Headset Computer and the Golden-i by Kopin Corporation, these are fully wired headset computers that allow emergency service workers to communicate & work effectively as a team during fires and other crisis situations.”
You got to see some really cool new stuff!
