Testing the MacBook Air

My MacBook Air

My first MacBook

Yes it’s true, this PC girl has her very first Mac & I feel it’s important to let you folks know why. First, I love quality hardware, all of it, bring it! Secondly, many of you ask me for my advice & opinions to help you make informed purchases, how can I give that advice if I’m not comfortable on all platforms? Lastly and most importantly, I host reviews and giveaways from some really nice companies but I’m not on any brand’s payroll, my tech opinions remain my own. I’ll continue to give you the straight scoop &  tell you guys when I’ve been compensated in any way for reviews, giveaways and other promo supports.

My eye has been caught by the 2.8 pound Mac Book Air for quite awhile, I am increasingly obsessed with mobile computing solutions that are light & slim .The 13.3 inch MacBook air weighing in at just 2.8 pounds totally fits in with my requirements. I’m now trying it out, posting on the blog using MarsEdit for Mac. This is a gorgeous computer, so light I can carry it in one hand, ultra quiet, everything is solid state which equals dead silence except when doing any intense gaming that causes the CPU fan to spin up.

To test the photo insertion properties of MarsEdit Here’s a nifty pic I found by a very cool artist named Ben Heine, you can get to know more about Ben & his work by checking out his blog http://benjaminheine.blogspot.com/

Leopard by Ben Heine

Considering that this computer is running OS X Lion & not Snow Leopard, I thought Ben’s pic would add a nice touch to the post ;)

I’m just finding my way around the Mac,there is much to love about this computer & the Lion Operating system but after decades of being strictly a Windows gal I’m not sure if I’ll be able to adjust, I’m using Mars Edit to write this post & am already missing Windows Live Writer so we shall see how this goes, I suspect I’ll be installing Windows via Boot Camp very soon.

I will continue to keep you guys updated as I explore  MAC OS X Lion & my explorations of all things Apple, yes, I still love Windows but just like a parent with many children, there is enough love in my heart for many gadgets! Just consider me a PC pausing to take a bite out of an Apple ;)

FTC: I have not been compensated in any way for this post by Apple, Ben Heine or Red Sweater Software or anybody else for that matter :)

Have I mentioned lately that I am SUPER jealous of your Macbook!

I’ve dedicated myself a MacBook fund and I am slowing building up funds to purchase my very own. Glad to hear you are enjoying it. I think having duel book windows on a Mac is the best of booth worlds.

Girl, It’s been a longgggg time since I used a Mac, lol, I’d really be dating myself if I told you the name of the last Mac I used but will tell you I remember when Apple released the Lisa :)

This is a very worthy piece of hardware, I do have some complaints though (when don’t I?) which I’ll be sharing soon. Thanks for taking the time to stop in here, I hope your buy a Mac fund grows quickly.

My wife convinced me to switch back to Macs about 7 years ago, and I have not been disappointed since. The interface has always been somewhat intuitive; you know, just makes sense. Things are straight-forward and it has been so long since I have experienced the dreaded “blue screen of death.”

We do still have a PC in the house, my son insists on playing games on his computer and there are many more PC games than Mac games and the official military sites seem to be Internet Explorer biased.

Looking forward to hearing a full review – my wife also went for a 13.3 inch MacBook Air and I am thinking that sometime next year I will finally upgrade my 12 inch PowerBook for the same for the reason of portability.

Welcome to Macintosh. If you still need Windows apps, get VMware or Parallels instead. Boot Camp is an inferior (but free) solution. I have been a Macker since 1984 and I love my 13″ Air most of all.

Never heard of MarsEdit. I use Photoshop Elements for pix and Scrivner for writing and ByWord for composing blog edits. Read my posts for more info. Glad to have you with us. If you have a Mac Users Group in your area I strongly recommend you join up. Lots of help and new friends.

I won a Macbook Air around this time last year and I love it. We hardly use our home computer anymore. I don’t have many complaints (for what I use it for). It does take some getting used to but I absolutely love it and my next desktop purchase will be a Mac also. No more PC for me!

Michael, checking your site out now, thank you for stopping in. On a Windows PC I love Windows Live Writer because it’s so easy to use & because of features like the ability to watermark my pics. I’m really searching for a Mac Alternative but so far don’t see an app that offers the range of features of Live writer.

Gosh I missed this post! Was wondering how you liked the Mac! Like you, it has been too many years for me to remember when I was on one, it was way back when though.

Looking forward to more of your posts on this as I have wanted to give one of the Macs a try.

Hey Jean, if you like the hardware of the Macbook Air but want to run Windows…check out a new class of notebooks called ‘ultralights’.
