Many of you have asked me what’s going on here as I don’t post much, others of you who have gotten to know me on Facebook and Twitter have asked why I don’t share more about my life here in Boston. After careful thought I have to admit that I haven’t been doing the kind of writing I am capable of, the winter blahs, having a full time job all factor into my inertia but there is are bigger reasons lurking in the background. How much sharing is okay? What about my family and their right to privacy? Avoiding controversy, never sharing an honest thought or opinion on issues of the day has lead to a safe blog that is BORING! Yes, I said out loud what many of you have been thinking for months, this blog is a snooze fest! I find myself spending more time on my personal Facebook than I do here, why ? because conversations there are real and unscripted. I can either swing in the direction of being a full time social media cheer leader for others in my network or I can change this blog into a place that I actually want to spend time with, working to produce some content that others might wish to read.
What Does That Mean for Readers?
Turning focus means you’ll see more about day to day life here in Boston, you’ll be seeing more about my husband and son, I’ll be posting more about my struggles with my weight, my horrible sleep habits, DIY projects involving tech and household repair. You’ll be seeing more sharing, linking to other people’s wonderful content. In short, you’ll be seeing more of me!
My Promises to You
Personal Blogging: I’ve set a goal to start of producing three personal posts per week. Feel free to suggest anything you might want to read about.
Sponsored Posts – You will be seeing less of them. Sponsored content will only be accepted if the sponsor or product is something that I love and think will interest you. Additionally, sponsored material must allow me the freedom to post a tutorial or offer you links to free resources associated with the topic.
Disclaimers: I have always let you know when I am paid to produce content, that information will now be available to you at the top of each post instead of at the bottom.
Giveaways: These will still happen because I feel they are a nice way to reward readers and hey, I get given some nice things, why shouldn’t I share the wealth? Giveaways though will become an extra and not the main focus of the site.
Criticism: Healthy discussion builds communities, as long as comments are not profane, threatening or abusive to myself or other members they will not be deleted.
Summing it up
I’m as tired of writing stuff that looks like an infomercial as you are of reading it. Instead of buying readers via giveaways I’d like the chance to earn your support via some honest writing and real sharing. I need to thank my friend Robyn Wright for giving me the courage to make these changes, she leads by example in how she shares her life on her own site and if you aren’t subscribed to her now I heartily suggest you give her a read!
