ilearnwith understands that children are using their parent’s ipads & that they are doing so at younger & younger ages. They’ve come up with a series of unique, fun educational apps to meet the needs of children 3 to 6 years old. The ilearnwith program offers seven different apps focusing on the literacy, science, language & math skills your child will need when they start school. For this review, I’m going to focus on Ice Land Adventures.

Ice Land Adventures
This app is devoted to developing literacy skills & consists of three different games.
1. The Bears – your child will get to help cute bears down ice slides by matching upper & lowercase letters – the bear gets a nice ice cream cone in the process.
2. The Penguins – This level involves throwing snowballs to put together vowels & consonants to form syllables. This level gets bonus points from me because it includes a two player mode.
3. The Seals – your child will get to spell words by correctly arranging seals who are wearing letter hats
Fun Game Play For Your Child
This app is cute, the little blue alien who guides & provides game instructions has a child’s cheerful voice & the characters on each level have sweet faces. Aside from the obvious literacy skills being targeted I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of secondary skills involved with each game. Listening, observation, matching & fine motor skills are integral parts of each game level.
Detailed Progress Reports and Educational Recommendations for Parents
Written by the same developers behind PBS Kids Play! the ilearnwith series of games has been developed with input from early childhood educators. The program also offers unique individualized tracking that adjusts to your child’s level of progress. You can receive emailed reports letting you know how your child is progressing that also allow you to compare his/her progress with children of the same age. As a bonus, this app is also available in french! Get your child started using a second language early!
