Finer living, to me involves sharing great products with my readers via Twitter parties and Blog Giveaways. I have a lot of fun giving cool things away but yesterday a controversy came up on twitter regarding cheating that was upsetting. The conversation extended onto at least one blog and I feel compelled to restate my site polices.
The Goal of Giveaways
Every sponsor is different but the ultimate goal of any promotional giveaway contest is to increase awareness of a brand or product, to spread positive word of mouth feedback among groups of people who are most likely to buy a company’s service or product.
For a site owner the goal of giveaways is much the same, to increase awareness of his/her site via positive word of mouth, to build subscriber count & to retain existing subscribers via the select offering of unique prizes.
Respectful dialogue asking about the rules of a giveaway or how winners are being selected during a Twitter party is totally fine, as is asking for the RSVP link.Using a party Hashtag to conduct a protest or to bash a host or brand is not. I witnessed behavior at a party hosted by Amy over @resourcefulmom that was so rude to her and to the sponsor that it made me cringe.
Also not okay (at least on this site) is attending my Twitter party, tweeting my party hashtag, along with 1 or 2 other hashtags from other parties happening during the same time frame in the hopes of winning multiple prizes from different parties. If you can keep up with 2-3 different parties at the same time god bless ya but ,if you’re smart, you’ll use each parties hashtag in proper context.
If you think somebody is “cheating” via any method please feel free to contact me either via DM or the contact form on this site, be sure please to include whatever proof you have of your allegation. Please, do NOT use the party hashtag as a platform to launch accusations against fellow party goers. Remember,If cheating is verified, another winner can be selected later!
Sponsors are in the drivers seat here, they and their legal teams set the rules for things like Twitter Parties and giveaways. As hosts we can suggest a party/giveaway format that we know works well for our readers but ultimately the sponsor sets the rules.
Twitter Party and Giveaway Policies on this site
RSVP via Mr Linky is required
Parties are held in Question/Answer format
Winners are chosen via Random.org from the RSVP list, I then check to make sure the winner tweeted an answer to the question using the party hashtag.
Rules are clearly posted on each giveaway
I check potential winner’s entries for compliance with contest rules.
Summing it up
When I’m talking with a company about a possible promotion, I stress the laid back, elegant nature of my readers, I point out that you guys enjoy tasteful luxuries be they large or small. I want to offer bigger and more frequent prizes to you folks, let’s continue to act in a classy, manner that will have sponsors chomping at the bit to present their goods and services to you. Let’s show the world what finer living is about via our discerning tastes and impeccable manners! Let’s keep this fun!
