I’m sure you’ve read a million recaps of BlogHer10 by this point & I won’t bore you with endless tales of the great speakers, awesome food, tremendous parties…in this post What I do want to share with you is the attending BlogHer10 changed me, I tend to be sort of reclusive in real life, outgoing with people who know me well, rather awkward & shy around those who don’t.Going to NYC, alone to a conference with 2500 strange people? Agreeing to work the conference reception desk?Agreeing to share a hotel room with 3 strange women? LOL just those 2 acts alone exceeded my comfort zone by about 10,000 miles!
Omg what are you doing here are you crazy?
I arrived at Penn station with my baggage.. and I don’t mean just my suitcase, no my baggage included a hefty load of self doubt, what if people don’t like me? what if they think it’s funny that an old lady is doing this? what do I have to offer all these brilliant shining young people? The critic who lives in my head was working overtime indeed! I sat down before haling a taxi & suddenly it hit me that if I were to profit from this experience I was going to need to pull on the big girl panties & look outward ,instead of focusing on my own boring insecurities & fears!
Firing the Inner critic & profiting
What did I gain by looking outward? I got to see , hear & be a part of the sea of shining faces, collective voices of the 2500 hundred amazing women who attended Blogher10. There were young women, old women, writers from all walks of life, from all parts of the globe, there was singing, dancing, moments of joy, of reflection, energy & ideas..there was acceptance. I’ve found my people & they are beautiful. LOL,I’m actually crying writing this I came away from the conference energized & fully committed to this site & to letting my voice speak, strong, clear & true via my writing!
I found my people & they shine so brilliantly!
I need to take a moment here to thank each & every person at BlogHer10 & my sponsor Ergotron for making this amazing experience possible!
FTC: Ergotron provided partial cash sponsorship of my conference expenses.
